Overview of the 2017 SOARING Mindfulness Experience

From the moment you arrive, be ready for lift off; in fact, you are likely to begin SOARING as you cross the Bridge of the Gods into Stevenson, Washington. Its not simply the name, there's a shift that takes place at that historic crossing...and the shifting continues as you land at the Skamania Lodge. The retreat schedule is rich with content, yet intentionally designed with enough space for you to create your own experience. Each experience will be woven with the culture of the Pacific Northwest through music, ritual and ceremony. Every day will take you on a soaring journey through the lens of mindfulness. And your free time can be Sacred, Open, Adventurous, or a Renewal.

This is your time to SOAR!

We encourage you to keep checking back as more experiences will be announced and added to the schedule in the coming weeks!

A shared spiritual practice will open and close the evening, leaving you inspired to set your own personal intention for the weekend. Each of the following TED talk style wisdom will be intermixed with beautiful music to kick off our weekend together.

Following the Golden Thread Home with Jeffon Seely

We all have those times in our experience when we think we are lost, unaware of the path to take. There are people in our lives who cause us to overlook our greatness and hang onto every mistake. There are situations that shatter our dreams and make the future seem like it is hopeless. But in the midst of walking through these storms, there is an internal compass that guides us if we can remain focused. By shifting our attention to the present, moving our awareness into our hearts and out of our heads, we see that wherever we may be there is something to hold onto, The Golden Thread.

Grasp, Connect, Be.

Mindfulness, Spirituality, and the Brain with Mark Waldman

By simply spending a few minutes several times a day, a person can permanently alter the functioning of the brain by as much as 25%. The result: Greater work productivity with less stress, decreased anxiety and depression, and enhanced memory, cognition, and empathy. The experience includes animated videos of the human brain, interactive slides of Newberg and Waldman’s brainscan studies, and demonstrations of simple techniques that you can experience – exercises that have been documented to improve neural functioning, generate personal happiness, and improve social interactions in the workplace and at home.

The Faith to Doubt with Rev. Dr. David Alexander

Grace & Grit - Vulnerability, Mindfulness and Grit in today's world with Coach Barb Beck

In this powerful workshop, Barb focuses on how to balance keeping your heart open, staying mindful and connected through strong daily spiritual practices and how to still anchor in a kind of "grit" that keeps inner resilience alive!  It can be easy, especially in spiritual communities, to remain committed to kindness and principles such as "compassion" and "acceptance" and not understand how to also take the necessary actions that are needed to keep a person strong from the inside out.  Many times during a week, we are faced with using our "wise discernment" and need a wide range of tools and skills to act with integrity, yet learn how to say a firm "No" when it's being called for.  This is a rich topic and always sparks thought provoking questions and meaningful conversations, which Barb makes sure to leave time for.  Come enjoy this intriguing dialogue around "Grace & Grit!"
